 | In Peyrassol, wine and history are one:1256. During the reign of Raymond Berenger V, Count of Provence Alfonso II donated to Guillaume Catel, Master of the Temple's houses in Provence co-lordship of Cogolin is under the authority of Peyrasson. If it is unclear when the Commandery was founded in Peyrassol (probably 1204), a scroll of the Templars, dated 1256, preserved in the archives of the city of Marseille, gives accounts of the Commandery for the harvest of the year 1256 or 44 milleroles (28,000 liters) of wine franc. 1308. Four months after the arrest of the Templars from the Kingdom of France, the Templars from Provence are incarcerated in their turn. It was in the fortress of Meyrargues we find Peyrasson's tutor in the company of Commander of Ruou. |
1311. The order of Malta inherits the Commandery of Peyrassol like all goods and property of the Templars. Carefully maintained, the vineyard will remain on the Order of Malta until 1789. 1789. The Order of Malta was dispossessed from the Commandery of Peyrassol and goes to the French state as a church good. 1790. Family Rigord acquires the Commandery. From this date, these are the ladies who run the estate of Peyrassol, while their husbands are engaged in their liberal profession until Dr Rigord inheriting the estate in 1967 and began replanting much of the property. 1977. Francoise Rigord decided to bottle and market the wines of the Commandery. |  |
